Hello all, I have been on a posting break for far to long, been busy. Sad to say things have slowed down in a time I need to be more busy (more work). On the other hand I got to do my Christmas card, a project I shelved thinking I would not have time to do it. Thanks for tuning in, and catch you on the flip side.

Back to the cintiq
As some of you may know i have been working on developing my skills as a digital artist. Still trying to work my head into blending digital as apposed to blending with traditional mediums. This is a work in progress, im going for a cliche military brute. He is missing his flat top hair cut and brows. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side.

TMNT study ;P
Well here is a Vitruvian turtle. I had this idea while checking out the few images I could find on the upcoming animated Ninja Turtle series by Nickelodeon. I have a few turtle sketches and a rough effort at a character break down in my sketch book but this I made using my new toy, Mr. Cintiq. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side!

Its not always about me!

Well, I talk about teaching art from time to time here, so i figured it was time to post some work of a student. As you can see she loves cats. She is using pastels on drawing paper. These tak us about 4 to 6 drawing sessions, and each session is 1:30 long, so she gets these done in about 6 to 9 hours, which with the level of detail is not bad, especially not for an 8 yr old. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side.

Wish me luck!!!!

Well, its been a few days, practicing on my new Cintiq when I get a chance, which these week included doing these to doodles %100 digital (as apposed to drawing in pencil and coloring/painting digitally). These two images are for a greeting card company I applied to recently, these are the "try outs". I got the short script after applying and sending a link with my work, which I hope means they like what they saw. I am also hopeful that if I get this job, I will get to do different subject matters, styles, and mediums (yeah, from time to time I like to to get my hands a little dirty with pastles, or spalsh on some paint). So wish me luck guys! Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side.

Painting in color

So after a teaching an art class, where mys student is using pastels, I decided to try a quick face painting using the same process. In pastels there is not black and white under toning of the paper so its hit with straight color. Very different then the black and white still life process. I still have to see what method/style/technique of digital painting. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side!

Digital painting continues!
Ok, so from b-day celebrations and a free lance gig, sorting/palling out finances for the next 21 months (god willing ill get 21 months no interest= pay off disney chase sooner for cheaper and cintiq). Until I get that cintiq Im still gonna practice with what I got. So here you can see the 3rd and 4th flower, much better than the 1st and 2nd, hence I zoomed in on them :P In the navagator window you can see Im near finished.... but now that Im getting the hang of this I want to go back and fix. Ill post finished one soon, than I will switch gears to get ready for sdcc, after which I will (unless I get something there) will be going back to learning digital painting. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side!

Logo that Bugs

So here is a recent gig I did, the mascot design for a logo. The company is Speck Productions, and they seem to like working with me, I hope more of that goes around, as much as I want a regular staff job (doing art of course) I dont imagine I would ever stop freelancing on the side, I love the random projects that come with it. I never would have thought to draw a bug with a film camera, but here you have it. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side!

Learning to Paint... DIGITAL

I know its been a bit of a while, I am bouncing between my day job with monsters, different portfolio peices, and an urge to learn how to paint digitally. After a long time of all work no play, I finaly got around to playing god of war 3. Beat it fairly fast and saw the making of videos. The art work by these guys at Santa Monica Studios is amazing, Andy Park and Jung Park have some major chops. So I have dived into digital painting. If you follow my blog you may see some colored work, but that is just really a glorified coloring book on photoshop style. So I needed to step back and learn like a newb. If your like me wanting to change to digital, and want a more organic traditional feel to your digital art I cant stress checking out ctrlpaint.com. This site is run by a former classmate of mine whom I respect a lot and can thank enough for his vids. If you see his sight you can see I clearly bought his bw to color vids. I had drawn the line at by had and scanned in, in this image I turned off that layer to show what it will look like painted. Thanks ctrlpaint.com and thank you for tuning in, catch you on the flip side.

The LionHeart Princess

Hello, here I'm keeping on with the fantasy character design I started up with the Genoshe Warrior. Here you see me go from pencil drawing, to line art, to gray tone markers to color with color pencil. I'm also trying this on the computer but feel a bit lost when I do, and the colors just and working for me like I would like them to. So here is an old school (on paper) design. Hope you like it, I had fun designing it. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side.

My most Handsome Comic Book Page ;)

Well, the Genoshe Warrior is not done being colored, and I'm kind of too far in to it to give a in progress by itself, so I figure I'll just put them in progress with the colors together, but for today, here is the most handsome page in all of comics, if you get the self serving joke, bear in mind it's just a joke. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side!

Genoshe Warrior pt2
I'm going to assume you liked the line art of the Genoshe Warior, and I am going to assume you like this as well. I blew up my original by about 60% and transferred it to Canson mid tone paper (warm felt grey). Here I start applying markers much like the still life I am doing, to get tones, however on this one you can see I added the white color pencil for its lighter areas. I will be finishing this in full color so check in again to see it finished. Thanks for tuning in and catch you on the flip side!
